33 Years to get here and just getting started...

What a journey thus far. I am the poster-child for non-trads...more commonly referred to as 'non-traditional students.' While it has taken some time to get here, I am not growing roots. I applied and was accepted at both TCSPP's (The Chicago School of Professional Psychology) and NYU Steinhardt's Master's programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I will be starting TCSPP at the end of August.

The vast majority of this space has been a bit of how I got to this point. Twenty years post-high school, I started my college career in business management. Logical. Useful. Life happened, and with it, my trajectory. My focus is on context in communication. While my education has gained me access into many aspects of psychology, it was coursework in I/O psychology that gave me insight into my scholarly and personal research. As both our professional and personal lives are influenced by social media, it is that availability that leads to confusion and clarity of others. It is within the context of communication that people and ideas become lost and marginalized.

It does not have to be this way. Whether generational gap or cross-cultural gap, professional life or personal life, our messages are getting lost in translation. Our sense of belonging, of community, are dwindling. For many, this leads to silence, depression, and suicide. None of these are unique to Western culture. All are on the rise, even before COVID - 19.

I hope you will come back and see where my studies go. I appreciate your willingness to join me, and look forward to your feedback.
